Overview:

The Aspects of Rail series is a varied and diverse video magazine programme picturing the international railway scene, both past and present. This time, we feature the Maclear branch in South Africa, say farewell to steam in snow covered Ukraine, show SY steam locos at work on the Baotou Steelworks railway in China, and visit the diesel hotspot that is Water Orton in the UK, for some freight and passenger action.

  • Class 19D on the now closed Sterkstroom to Maclear branch in South Africa's Eastern Cape.

  • Class SO17 from Grechany to Lenkovitsy in Winter conditions; a fitting farewell to Ukrainian steam - withdrawn in 2008.

  • Class SY locomotives in action on the Baotou Steelworks railway in China's Inner Mongolia province; steam was finally withdrawn in early 2009.
